Local skills & funding updates from around the county
LSIP – Phase 2 Delivery Started
Welcome to the sixth edition of this e-bulletin, updating you on development of the Essex LSIP. Further information is available on our website and you can also email us at lsip@essexchambers.co.uk. This update includes general skills news, so please get in touch if you have any to share.

Following fantastic engagement from Essex employers and stakeholders in LSIP development and approval from the Secretary of State, we are now progressing Phase 2. This is the delivery stage. You can see the full report (which includes an action plan and supporting annexes) on our website.

The LSIP Board met on 9th November 2023. We reviewed initial actions for Phase 2 and confirmed early priorities. Examples of work in progress include an employer toolkit. The Board also heard about the Essex bid to the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF), led by Harlow College in collaboration with Essex colleges and providers. This will enable the local skills landscape to respond to the LSIP. It will include sector relevant programmes, facilities and equipment.

The Department for Education (DfE) has also announced a £200m package of skills funding to support colleges. Essex has been awarded £5.55m which will provide new skills training in green skills, digital, creative and cultural, green construction, health and social care, education, engineering and manufacturing – all areas where skills will be in demand in Essex over the coming years. Read the Essex Chambers of Commerce press release here.

Employers still have plenty of opportunities to get involved in further work and delivery, which helps us ensure that the LSIP is delivering for you. You can find more about the LSIP Board meetings here.
