Essex Careers Magazine – Edition Four out now!

We are pleased to announce the release of Edition Four of the Essex Careers Magazine! This edition places a spotlight on the Digital Sector, a critical area of focus, while also highlighting the Construction sector - both of which align with the priorities outlined in the Essex Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP). Additionally, readers will find insights into emerging fields such as E-Sports.

The magazine features contributions from local providers and employers, including the Colchester Institute and the Mercury Theatre. Since its launch a year ago, the Essex Careers Magazine has grown and now has a substantial readership of at least 20,000 individuals across Essex.

Innovate UK Announces £7.3m investment funding for Chelmsford College

Chelmsford College has been awarded Further Education Innovation Funding (FEIF) by Innovate UK. This funding will support the implementation of the Inclusive Employment Innovating Business program, which aims to address labour market inequalities and enhance recruitment and retention within key local sectors.

The national funding package, totalling £7.3 million, empowers colleges across the country to establish Local Innovation Centres. Chelmsford College will play a pivotal role in this initiative, recruiting a dedicated team to collaborate directly with employers. The goal is to foster inclusive employment practices, ensuring equal opportunities for all, regardless of ability, gender, or background. You can read more about the project HERE.

Central to this program is the establishment of local innovation centres. These dynamic hubs will actively drive local business growth by engaging with key sectors in our economy.
 

British Chambers of Commerce supporting LSIP & Youth Skills

Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) across England “are working and beginning to make positive differences for local employers”, according to a new report commissioned by the British Chambers of Commerce. Based on evidence from 21 of the 32 chamber led LSIPs, the evaluation report concludes that the process is changing attitudes and encouraging more employers to collaborate and engage positively with the skills system. A ‘stable and coherent’ skills strategy is needed to prepare young people for the world of work, according to first ever British Chambers of Commerce Youth Skills Manifesto. The report highlights the key skills employers look for in young people and how individuals will need to embrace new learning throughout their careers as the workplace becomes more technical, automated and low carbon focused. It examines the important role of technical education, notably T-Levels, Higher Technical Qualifications and Apprenticeships across England. Read more HERE.
 

Slashed – SME 5% contributions for apprentices

We welcome the news that the government have removed the SME 5% contribution for Apprentices.  We welcome any changes that remove barriers to employers.
