Local skills & funding updates from around the county
Sector facts and figures

The evidence base and data annex which will support the LSIP will contain a wealth of information ranging from qualification levels, employment data and projected growth and vacancies. Alongside the engagement taking place as described through this bulletin, this will help us to establish a clear picture of what Essex needs now and, in the future, and where the gaps are. The data will be produced alongside the LSIP report, so will be available to view and where possible, will be broken down to local district level. In the meantime, some headlines for one of our key sectors in Essex:

Construction in Essex – did you know?

  • Over 65,000 people work in construction across Essex, Southend and Thurrock
  • There is forecast to be a 30.5% increase in jobs in construction locally (2019-2030) compared to 0.4% nationally
  • The sorts of roles in the sector include heating engineer, insulation installer, solar installer, construction manager and building surveyor
  • There are a number of big projects across the area, such as the Lower Thames Crossing, Freeports and housing developments which will continue to impact on the considerable opportunities and skills needs of the construction sector locally.
